Gunjur United, popularly known as the Coastal Boys, ended their 2024/25 GFF Second Division campaign on a high with a commanding 3-1 win over Wagadu FC at the Nyamina Mini Stadium on Friday.

The Dabanani-based side drew first blood in the 25th minute through Mafugi Demba, who finished off a brilliant run by Edrissa Barjo to give the hosts the lead. Demba doubled his tally shortly after, latching onto a pinpoint cross from Sheriffo Bojang to make it 2-0 before halftime.

Wagadu FC fought back late in the second half and were rewarded in the 81st minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1 and briefly threatening a comeback.
But Gunjur United restored their two-goal cushion in stoppage time when Bubacar Dibba was fouled in the box after a dazzling dribble. Sheriffo Keita stepped up and confidently converted the resulting penalty, making it 3-1 and sealing all three points for the Coastal Boys.

The victory ensured Gunjur United’s survival in the Second Division as they finished 12th on 41 points. Wagadu FC narrowly avoided the drop as well, ending their campaign in 14th place with 40 points.
