The emerging fractures within the ruling National People’s Party( NPP) are worse than what opposition UDP is experiencing; party supremo Ousainou Darboe has assessed.

Speaking to Kerr Fatou before flying to the US for the annual fundraiser in Seattle, Darboe was keen to downplay fears of a split among elected local government leaders in the party he has lead for three decades. His words:
“Divisions in NPP are worse. Look at Kebba Madi and his people. The problem with NPP is at grass roots level. I don’t want any blame to be put on these elected leaders. I don’t want that. I have spoken to all the elected leaders and their supporters. If the elected leaders listened to my advice, but their supporters don’t..I should be worried about it because I don’t know their agenda.
I don’t know their agenda but otherwise I shouldn’t really be overly worried about it. If they don’t listen we leave them to their own devices until the day you say Gambians shouldn’t support UDP then we know what to do with you. There was no problem. Even if there was a problem it was latent. How do you address that? Am i gonna imagine or create a situation of what is happening when everyone is talking of unity and working together?”
