UDP leader, Ousainou Darboe, has leapt to the defense of beleaguered mayor of Banjul Rohey Malick Lowe amid probe into allegations of corruption.
In televised appearances before the commission, the UDP-backed mayor admitted to not following due process with millions missing under her watch.
Speaking to Kerr Fatou before flying to the US for the annual fundraiser in Seattle, Darboe was prodded on the corruption allegations against public officials from his party. He retorted:

“Let us see the conclusions. If that’s true, nobody would condone that. But shouldn’t stop us from relying on her achievements. If we’re gonna do that then Barrow cannot rely on his achievements with all the roads he built. He cannot rely on those things”.
The fall out from the commissions of the enquiry, Darboe assessed, will not be harmful to public perception of his party:
“In the first place I don’t know how it can be detrimental to Yankuba Darboe. Talib…procedural matters which is the fault of the government for not having done the necessary reforms. Why should he be affected?
Again, Banjul…if the commission makes adverse findings she has a right to appeal against that adverse finding up to the Supreme Court. If everything is confirmed then we can say ‘yes, mayor of Banjul didn’t do the right thing’.”
